Texas waterfowl hunters continue to be among the best conservationists when it comes to raising funds for habitat protection and other initiatives vital to continuing outdoor traditions.
That fact again has been backed by news that 41 Texas Ducks Unlimited chapters were recognized nationally on the President’s Elite and Top 100 chapter list. Out of the more than 2,600 DU chapters nationwide, 41 of Texas’ chapters achieved national recognition by the conservation organization, officials said.
The President’s Elite list is reserved for chapters that raise $100,000 or more for DU’s habitat conservation work. In 2014 22 chapters in Texas made the list. The Top 100 list is composed of the top 100 fundraising chapters in the United States that raise as much as $100,000 through fundraising activities in their communities. Texas had 19 chapters receive that recognition.
The Houston, Galveston, Metro-Crest, Mid-South, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Ellis County, Navasota, Aggieland, Dallas, Big Thicket, Sabine, Central Texas, Tomball, Columbus, Mexia, Rockport-Fulton, Winnie-Stowell, Shelby County, Midland, Frisco, and Katy-Brookshire chapters earned spots on the President’s Elite.
The Wood County, Fort Worth, Matagorda County, Lake Cities, Denton, Pearland, Lee County, Rice Belt, Victoria, Brazos Valley, Whitehouse, Austin, Weatherford, Fort Bend County, San Jacinto, McKinney, Comal County, Allen and Fayette County chapters made the Top 100 list.
DU’s event fundraising system has become a model for other conservation organizations around the world and has funded a significant portion of the more than 13 million acres of wetlands and associated habitat DU has conserved since 1937.
